When it comes to electric drive off-high-way trucks, Komatsu Mining System's 930E Ultra Truck has made significant advances over the last five years, changing the direction of the entire haul truck industry. Komatsu was the first to break the 300 t payload capacity barrier and was also the first to utilise AC drive technology in off-highway mining operations. By pioneering the use of AC drive technology, which prior to 1997 was strictly used in rail-based vehicles/operations, this system has now become a standard in the mining industry as a future replacement of the already established DC drive system.
