摘要

Underground coal mining is a critical factor in the production of heat and the generation of low-cost power needed to develop and sustain world economies. Policy makers believe that mineable world coal reserves are sufficient to provide low-cost fuels well into the future, but forecasts of coal reserves using current mining technology may be optimistic when coalfield sterilisation rates and the near exhaustion of "easy-to-mine" reserves are brought into consideration.
