Continuous mining can seem a particularly attractive option when looking at extracting coal in an underground environment. With rates in the range of 30 - 40 t/minute, it can far exceed the production and productivity capabilities of other methods, making a very compelling case for implementation. It would seem to be an easy business decision. Indeed, there have been numerous instances where this potential has persuaded a mine to jump at the opportunity to bring in this technology, essentially incorporating a new process into an existing infrastructure.
