THE ECONOMICS OF CO_2 TRANSPORTATION

The large-scale deployment of CCS will require the dedication of significant resources to construct and operate a pipeline system to transport CO_2 from the capture facility to suitable underground storage formations. Many of the design considerations and technologies in these systems are already used by the oil and gas sector in existing hydrocarbon pipeline applications. Because of this experience, the oil and gas industry can play a crucial role in determining a way forward for transporting CO_2 to make possible large-scale, commercial deployment of CCS.
