Typically, complex deposits consist of multiple seams of different quality and often exhibit moderate to complex geological structures. These geological features may include washouts, channels and rolls, faulting creating adverse localised seam dips and regional fault zones. For complex deposits, a stripping ratio cutoff limit alone may give a distorted picture of a deposit's true resources, i.e. coal that has reasonable prospects for economic extraction, as defined in the various coal resource and reserve classification codes.
