In April this year, the UK Parliament announced the formation of a new cross-party parliamentary group to support and encourage the clean coal technologies that are now emerging. The new All Party Parliamentary Group for Clean Coal initially set its main aim of encouraging, through all available parliamentary channels, the UK Government to embrace both pre and post-combustion clean coal technologies in order to preserve and strengthen coal's role in the energy mix and allow the UK to become predominant in the global clean coal technological race. Large-scale development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) is also keenly supported by the new group.
