There are a variety of machines and systems that can be used in the underground coal mining industry for roadway development and coal production in room-and-pillar mining systems. These include: Bolter miners: employed as development machines in the US, Australia, China and Western Europe (UK and Spitzbergen), but also in room-and-pillar mining in challenging roof conditions. Roadheaders: the main roadway development machines in the coal mining industry in Central Europe (Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic) and Russia. Coal loaders and shuttle cars are responsible for the necessary transport logistics. Mobile bolters, roof bolters and face bolters provide safe strata control.
