The Indian Union Coal Ministry is undertaking an Integrated Coal Policy (ICP) for approximately 350 of India's fledgling underground mines.The country currently adopts the practice of opencast mining,and this shift to underground mining is a significant development as the Government continues to reel under the problem of unremunerative underground mines.
