Coal & Allied have called for a new rationing system to clear queues of ships at the congested Newcastle Port.The company is a unit of Rio Tinto,and was involved in swaying a vote among coal miners last year to cease the use of a rationing system at the port.Xstrata will lobby to reinstall the rationing system,with Coal & Allied calling for a system more closely related to capacity,which could last for two or three years.
