At KPMG's annual North American mining executive forum, we ask participants about the top risks for their mining business. Cost escalation, labour issues and Government involvement in the industry are consistently identified as key risks. As there is greater Government and public focus on mine safety, longer permitting cycles, environmental and sustainability pressures, continued cost drivers, and additional regulations affecting the industry, it has never been more important to focus on mine-level operational excellence.
