INDIA--Coal India Ltd looks to South Africa to fill supply gap

Coal India Ltd (CIL), India's state-owned coal company and the world's largest producer of coal, has signed an agreement for mining rights in South Africa.Under the agreement, CIL will acquire coal blocks in the northern province of Limpopo to develop into coal mines.The mines will be held jointly with the Government of Limpopo province. CIL will hold the majority stake, but the province will hold at least a 26% stake in accordancewith South Africa's Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) initiative.
