It is widely accepted that there is a need to constantly improve safety in today's mining industry. A plethora of new technologies entering mines, such as communications, proximity detection and tracking technologies, are helping to achieve this goal. These developments have brought about changes and updates in standards and guidelines. While new technology is essential for a safer working environment, lighting can often be forgotten or viewed as a lower priority. Lighting, however, is a simple way to help reduce accidents and improve safety.
