On 25 June 2012, a vessel left the Port of Beira in Mozambique carrying the first export shipment of 34,000 t of premium hard metallurgical coal from Rio Tinto'-s Benga mine. Bound for a steel mill in India, the shipment marked a major milestone for the mine, which had been officially opened just one month earlier. It also marked a major milestone for the growing Moatize coal basin in Mozambique, which now boasts two exporting coal companies - Vale and Rio Tinto.
