It is hard to imagine an industry more beset by difficulties than the coal industry. Coal producers face a host of technical, commercial, environmental and political challenges as they supply more than 6 billion t from thousands of locations with a wide variety of resource bases and using a wide variety of different methods and techniques. Advances in equipment technologies has been one of the essential means of coping with the many challenges of safely supplying coal at reduced cost, while trying to minimise the environmental impact of its extraction.
