Germany will phase out its heavily subsidised coal mining industry by 2018.A review in 2012 will decide whether a small amount of mining will continue.The decision has been reached after months of talks between politicians and leaders from the coal industry.Over 34,000 miners work in the German coal industry and federal and state Governments pay up to US 3.2 billion a year in coal subsidies.
