The art of export

Rennies Ships Agency, almost from inception, has been involved in coal exports from South Africa. Of course there has been considerable change in coal shipping out of South Africa over the years. South Africa is particularly blessed with large reserves of coal and initially, in the 1890s, coal was shipped out of Durban through the 'Bluff Coaling Appliance.' A few years later a coal shipping appliance was bought secondhand from the Great Lakes in 1911 and erected at Lourenco Marques - now Maputo. This appliance, the 'McMyler', is still in operation in Maputo.
