There is no obvious answer when it comes to the tracks vs. wheels argument as each piece of equipment is designed for different tasks, and both have their pros and cons. All the major OEMs offer both solutions for a reason, and it is up to the purchaser of the machine to decide which solution is right for the task at hand. An excavator's ability to perform is down to the specification: Bucket force. Stick force. Horsepower. It is the vehicle's ability to move earth and material from one area into another and horsepower, which affects the machine's productivity the most. Horsepower alone will not increase breakout force. Once the horsepower is directed into the hydraulic system the speed is optimised; with speed being how quickly the machine can move the material at hand.
