Sequestration, research, clean coal technologies and hydrogen research are fundamental to any realistic energy policy because they acknowledge an indisputable fact, that without economic growth environmental progress will falter. With a good technology pathway to follow and market-driven innovation to light the way, coal can lead us to a greater degree of energy independence at far less cost. Coal will also be extremely valuable to emerging developing countries that are aiming to strengthen both their energy industry and their wider economy.
