In 2001, China became the third country in the world to have successfully applied the fully-automatic plowing system. In this case, the Tiefa Coal Mining District has increased the potential life of its mines by a total of 41 years. The system has greatly improved the underground safety and working environment, leading to safe coal production. At the face all equipment is remote-controlled by extensive use of computers. Operators are stationed in a main control room. There are no employees at the working face during coal production, meaning that no hard labour is required and safety is ensured. A total of four automated DBT plow systems have now been sold into China including the provinces of Shanxi, Henan and Liaoning with three already in use and one currently being delivered. In addition, there are a number of other projects in progress. Similar systems have been sold into other countries.
