Polysius has come a long way since Andreas Ernst Gottfried Polysius began his business of making safes and other objects in 1859 in Dessau, and the recognition by his sons, Otto and Max, of the opportunities offered by the advances in the cement industry. In the late 1920s, the introduction of the Lepol~R kiln was a significant landmark in the company's history.
