UK SRF facility opened at Cemex Rugby Cement plant

On 18 September the new Rugby Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) facility was opened at the Cemex Rugby Cement plant, which will supply the plant with sustainable fuel for the next 25 years. The SRF facility is owned and operated by international recycling and waste management company Suez, and will supply the UK's largest kiln with up to 240 000 tpy of SRF using rubbish that has been sourced from across Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and the wider Midlands Area. The majority of this waste would otherwise be destined for landfill. The fuel is known as Climafuel and replaces traditional coal as an energy supply. The SRF facility will produce up to 200 000 tpy for the cement plant, with the remaining 40 000 t produced from Suez's SRF plant near Birmingham.
