[Worldwide] Cement sales increase for Holcim in 2012

Holcim's cement sales volumes increased by 2.5% from 144.3 million t in 2011 to 148 million t in 2012. On a regional basis, shipments declined by 2% in Europe to 26.3 million t due to the continuing financial difficulties in the region, whilst cement sales volumes in Africa Middle East dropped by 4.4% as a result of political instability. However, cement volumes experienced growth in the other markets in which the Group operates. In North America, sales were up 5% to reach 12 million t, whilst in Latin America and Asia Pacific volumes increased by 3% and 4.7%, respectively. Meanwhile, total aggregates sales volumes fell by 7.7% to 159.7 million t and deliveries of ready-mix concrete were down by 3.1% to 46.9 million m~3. In 4Q12, cement sales volumes grew by 1.1% to 36.6 million t while aggregate volumes decreased by 7.6% to 39.4 million t and ready-mix concrete shipments dropped 7.2% to 11.3 million m~3.
