At present, tribomaterials used in different machines, devices, tools, electric, and electronic apparatuses are mostly metals and metal-based composite materials, which are completed by polymers. The expectations focused on ceramics in the second half of the 20th century were not realized, the major obstacle being a high cost, but ceramics were widely used for surface modification in the form of wear-resistant coating films. At any rate, in this case, a balance between friction and wear properties required from tribomaterials and the cost (material cost and machining cost) was found. Then, in recent years, all the production, application, and discard processes gave rise to the problem of the protection of the environmental atmosphere. Being an economical and important material with very high mechanical properties, ceramics was fated to rejection because of the contamination of the environmental atmosphere.
