Requirements for seals grow increasingly stricter from the point of view of preventing atmosphere pollution and saving energy in rotary machines. On the other hand, progress in material science, technology of machining, and tribology has made it possible to develop new highly efficient seals. Assuming that such trends continue to exist at present, it is impossible to neglect the field of study and development of seals.
