Technological Trends and Issues in Seals for Automobiles (Part 2): Seals for Air Conditioning Compressors and Water Pumps

In recent years, the development of technology according to different requirements determined by automobile manufactures (longer service life, higher efficiency, miniaturization, environmental protection, and so on) has been notable. Similar technological improvements can be claimed for different shaft sealing structures (seals) used in automobiles. Such activities, including the clarification of reasons behind failures and the realization of countermeasures, and the development of new seals with improved reliability and durability, are performed actively [1]. In the present work, new technological trends and problems encountered in seals used in automobile air conditioners (air compressors) and in seals used in internal combustion engine coolant circulation pumps (water pumps) will be considered.
