Many 3D CAD programs can produce models that look good, with results entirely adequate for animations, architectural renderings, and similar images intended for human viewing. As you've seen in my previous columns, however, solid models destined for 3D printing have additional requirements imposed by the printer's mechanics and the physics of extruding molten plastic: Their beauty must be more than skin deep.
