Taxonomic Status of a Japanese Menemachine Weevil Elattocerus japonicus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Elattocerus japonicus Morimoto, 1960 is transferred to the genus Telephae Pascoe, 1870 based on the structures of the pronotum, scutellum, prosternum and legs. Redescription of this species including the male and female terminalia and Diological information are also provided for the first time.Weevils of the tribe Menemachini, subfamily Conoderinae are small and ovate to oblong-ovate species that occur mainly in the Old World tropics. Relatively little information is available on biology of this tribe, but as with other members of the Conoderinae, menemachine weevils are generally considered to be wood-feeders (cf. Gardner, 1938; Kojima et al., 2004).
