A new synthesis of thiazolo[4,5-c]- and -[5,4-6]carbazoles (6a-e, 7a, 8b-e) was accomplished from 3-aminocarbazoles (3a-e) by separate condensations with methyl and phenyl isothiocyanates, followed by oxidative cyclization of the resulting thioureidocarbazoles (4a-e, 5a).
