Treatment of 2-alkyl-3-hydroxy-3-vinylisoindolin-1-ones with 10 mol % of Pd(OAc)_2 and 1 mol eq.of DDQ in THF under reflux gave 3-(2-oxoethylidene)isoindolin-1-ones in 65-80% yields.
