Acid-catalyzed intramolecular addition of a hydroxy group to vinylgermanes

Vinylgermanes (1), bearing a hydroxy group, were efficiently caclized to 2-(germylmethyl)tetrahydrofurans (2) in the presence of an acid catalyst. The intramolecular addition of the hydroxy group proceeded in a stereospecific syn mode. The acid-catalyzed cyclization of alpha-alkyl-substituted vinylgermanes (8) gave 1,2-germyl-migration products(9).
