Family NOLIDAE, Subfamily Risobinae (sensu Holloway, 2003)

In the years following the publication of HETEROCERA SUMATRANA vol. 11 in 1997 the concept of the family Nolidae was expanded to also cover the Nolinae, Sarro-thripinae, Chloephorinae and Camptolominae (HOLLOWAY, 1998). A common characteristic of thegroups is their tendency to produce boat-shaped pupal cases with a slit for the exit of the imago. This special characteristic does not apply with the Risobinae in the former noctuid subfamily Sarrothripinae: the little known early stages, especially thepupal state, show cylindrical pupal cases tapering on one end and blunt on the other (SUGI et al.).
