摘要

The investigators studied 40 patients with stage III or stage IV oropharynx and supraglottic squamous cell carcinoma. Half of the patients had transoral robotic surgery (TORS) with adjuvant radiotherapy and the other half received primary chemoradiotherapy. Patients completed the MD Anderson Dysphagia Inventory (MDADI) before treatment and at follow-up visits at 3, 6, and 12 months. The investigators concluded that advanced-stage oropharynx and supraglottic cancers managed by TORS without adjuvant therapy resulted in significantly better MDADI swallowing outcomes at the 6- and 12-month follow-up visits compared with patients treated by primary chemoradiotherapy.
