Suvorexant: Dual orexin OX1/OX2 receptor antagonist treatment of sleep disorders

Suvorexant is a novel, selective, orally active dual orexin OX1 and OX2 receptor antagonist under development by Merck & Co. Phase III clinical trials for the treatment of insomnia have been completed and phase I clinical trials for the treatment of sleep apnea are under way. The phase III results suggested that patients taking suvorexant fell asleep faster and slept longer than those on placebo.
