Annual Meeting of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research 2012: Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - October 12-15, 2012

The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) 2012 annual meeting in Minneapolis was divided into a number of distinct themes that ran throughout each day of the meeting, including many interesting presentations on the effects and regulation of mesenchymal stem cells, along with prospects for therapies with these cells or the proteins they produce. Key clinical themes highlighted the need for new fracture surrogates and potential new treatments for postmenopausal osteoporosis, as well as the impact of steroid use on bone and aging and arthritis. Novel therapies for postmenopausal bone loss, as well as anabolic agents and vitamin D regimens, are the focus of this report.
