Tantalum obtained by various metallurgical methods has a body-centered cubic lattice (a phase). Tetragonal β-Ta was first obtained in the polycrys-talline state by magnetron sputtering [1]. Single-phase β-Ta powders were also isolated upon electrolysis of fluoride melts at about 730°C [2]. The possibility of producing polycrystalline β-Ta samples with a grain size of 2-20 μm by using not only fluoride but also chloride-fluoride and oxyfluoride melts was also demonstrated [3].
