The interest in studying the phase components of ternary oxide systems A2O-V2O5-SO3 (A is an alkali metal) is due to their application as models of the active component of vanadium sulfate catalysts. One of the most important features of these systems is formation of vanadium(V) complexes, namely, alkali-metal oxovanadium(V) sulfates. Five major types of oxovana-dium(V) sulfates have been found: A3VO2(SO4)2, AVO(SO4)2 (A = Na, K, Rb, Cs), AVO2SO4, A4V2O3(SO4)4 (A = K, Rb, Cs), and K3VO(S04)3. In the last years, increasing attention has been paid to studies of the structure of alkali-metal oxovanadium(V) sulfates. Data on the structures of three of the above compounds are available in the literature, namely, KVO(SO4)2, Cs4V2O3(SO4)4, and CsVO2SO4. Inasmuch as the literature data on the structure and properties of CsVO2SO4 are contradictory (this is caused, in our opinion, by a considerable difference between the preparation methods), in this paper, we report new data on the synthesis, structure, and vibrational spectra of this compound.
