t was shown that interspecific hybridization is not a unique phenomenon in mammals. The northern redbacked vole (Clethrionomys rutilus Pall.) and the bank vole (C. glareolus Schreb.) may serve as a convenient model to study processes of natural hybridization between species that are characterized by a large overlap of natural habitats and have not only precopulation, but also postcopulation isolating mechanisms.
