Chemical Composition of Peloids from Gurvan Nuur Middle Lake

Here, we have studied peloids from Gurvan Nuur Middle Lake and demonstrate that the balneal importance of this lacustrine mud is due to the presence of therapeutically active organic compounds (humic substances, lipids, higher dialkyl phthalates, polysaccharides, and the like), as well as hydrogen sulfide and trace elements. We found that the levels of higher dialkyl phthalates in nonaqueous extracts from dry residues of the peloids and the mud slurry, as well as in lipids, are higher than the levels of the other organic substances. The dialkyl phthalates identified in the peloids are of biogenic origin; that is, they originated from plant debris.
