A decrease in the functional capacities of the muscular system under gravitational unloading, especiallyin the case of longterm microgravity, is to a considerable degree connected with the changes in the structure of muscle fibers and their atrophy [5]. Measurement of the transversal stiffness in variousregions of the muscle fiber allows the state of localstructures to be assessed at the level of both the contractile apparatus and the sarcolemma [6]. Earlierstudies of this type on the effect of sevenday “dry”immersion on the state of the human soleus musclefibers [7] have demonstrated that the changes in thecontractile apparatus can be prevented by a plantarmechanical stimulator compensating for gravitationalunloading, developed by Kozlovskaya et al. [10]. Electromyostimulation is another yet least efficientmethod.
