Expression of Genes Encoding the WRKY Transcription Factor and Heat Shock Proteins in Wheat Plants during Cold Hardening

Adaptation of plants to low temperatures is associated with numerous structural and functional rearrangements in cells and tissues, including expression of many genes encoding stress (shock) proteins and transcription factors. In particular, it was shown that low hardening temperatures induce expression of cold-regulated (cor) genes coding for COR proteins, which increase cold hardiness of plants. Exposure of plants to low temperatures results in the activation of protein kinases leading to phosphorylation of a number of transcription factors. The latter activate regulatory genes inducing the expression of the genes encoding cold shock proteins and the synthesis of corresponding proteins. It was reported that an increase in the level of transcriptsof these genes may be important for increasing the resistance of plants (e.g., Arabidopsis). With allowance for above data, we studied the expression of the new transcription factor WRKY [5] and cold shock proteins in wheat plants at low hardening temperature.
