The Italian engineering firm Fidia is a leader in the design and manufacture of integrated multi-axis machining centres for complex workpieces for jig and tool, mould and model making. The company, located just outside Turin, currently supplies nine series of machines to suit different applications. In the early 1990s, Fidia embarked on a programme of research and development on high speed-cutting technologies. Convinced of the potential for this technology, particularly in combination with its own control system, the company started up a new machine manufacturing activity. This has resulted in a modular series of cutting machines that offer manufacturers in the automotive and aerospace industries a technology for high-speed cutting of large moulds, tools, aerospace structures and components where high precision and surface finish are of paramount importance.
