New trends in materials science and technology

The ever increasing need for more specialized materials continuously pushes the envelope of modern technology, equipment and human intellect. The materials science, technology and the industrial innovation for the next decades is based on the tetrahedron of the "BINC": the inter-relation between "bio" sciences - "info" technology, "nano" materials and "cogno" science: fig. 1. This new renaissance in science and technology unifies the societal structure for reaching human performance. This contribution gives an overview, highlights the needs and gives the important future directions for research in "nano - bio - info - cogno" materials science, engineering and technology. It also illustrates the opportunities and challenges for the materials science and engineering community in Europe and the world. These facts will be extensively demonstrated in the full paper; the figures, diagrammes and "roadmap(s)", in this resume, are mending to be an appetizer.
