Agricultural Biodiversity Issues Take Center Stage at CBD: Debate Centers on Bioprospecting and Status of Pre-Convention Genebank Holdings

Agricultural biodiversity--a designated focal point of the Third Conference of the Parties--proved to be an integral component of virtually every issue encompassed by the Convention on Biological Diversity. But, after more than a full week of grueling but steadfast negotiations and considerable compromise, the Agriculture Working Group was able to submit to the Committee of the Whole (COW) a wide-ranging draft decision containing only two issues still undecided.
