OPENING THE SLUICE CANAL

The recently-opened expansion to the Panama Canal has tripled the maximum vessel-size that can use this major international shipping route. There are 16 rolling gates operating the new canal extension, with the 4000 ton sluice gates measuring 30m high, 60m long and 10m wide.
