Energy saving is becoming an important priority, but it is at the industrial level where big savings can still be made

There is an urgent need to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Even the most sceptical of scientists now acknowledge that global warming is a fact, although the forecast of exactly what this means differs from expert to expert. While we should all play our part in cutting our own domestic consumption of energy by switching off unnecessary lights, not over-filling the kettle and turning down our central heating by a couple of degrees, it is at the industrial level where the really big cuts in power consumption can still be made. Cuts in consumption reduce greenhouse gases in power generation and, as energy costs increase, it can mean huge direct savings.
