KDG and Deutsche Telekom look to remaining cable assets

Deutsche Telekom may have been beaten by KDG in its move to acquire Tele Columbus, but its interest highlights the changed situation in the German market. In what could have been a transformative move, Deutsche Telekom recently made its bid for both of Germany's remaining large independent cable networks, Telecolumbus and Primacom. A win would have returned the German cable market to a situation not unlike the one before Telekom, responding to pressure from the country's antitrust watchdog, sold its cable arm - at the time comprising the country's entire so-called Level 3 network - in 2001.
