摘要

The Republic of Korea (ROK) is located in a suitable zone for the culture of temperate fruits such as apple, pear, peach, persimmon, and grape (33°N and 43°N parallels and 124°E and 132°E medians). In Jeju Island lying at the southern end part ofthe surrounding sea of Korea, citrus such as Satsuma mandarin can be produced because of the subtropical climate. Modern fruit science and technology has a 100 year-old history and traces to the opening of the Horticultural Model Farm in Seoul in 1906, Remarkable progress has been made over the last century As a result of efforts by horticultural scientists and growers, ROK is now considered one of the finest producers of high quality fruits, especially peach, pear, and persimmon.
