A metropolitan legend is an event considered to be true in the absence of elements that prove its authenticity or even if the evidence seems to rather deny its occurrence. The history of music has plenty of metropolitan legends like, for example, the popular Albinoni's Adagio, a masterpiece commonly attributed to the Venetian composer Tommaso Albinoni, but was really composed by the music editor Remo Giazotto about a century after.
