For on-highway diesels, the route to NO_x reduction for EPA 2010 compliance is by selective catalytic reduction (SCR). With that comes another gauge and warning light on the dash for the SCR system. It assists the driver in tracking the onboard supply of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and provides a light and - in extremes - an audible warning when DEF is running really low.
