Johnson Matthey has announced a significant step forward in its development work on diesel exhaust emission control. As part of a paper presented at the SAE Automotive Congress in Detroit earlier this year, Dr. Barry Cooper, vice president of technology for Johnson Matthey's Catalytic Systems Division, released details of the company's SCRT system, which it claims virtually eliminates carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions while reducing particulate matter (PM) and oxides of nitrogen (NO{sub}x) by between 75 and 90 percent.
